This DVD player works for routine American DVD's as well as for DVD's from different areas of the world like France. There is no have to do anything different when playing a disk as the DVD player understands the area the DVD placed is originating from. I went to France and revived 7 films but found that they do not play on simply any DVD gamer ... so I bought this one. I just utilized it a couple of times as I have numerous DVD gamers in my home. This is why I am including 7 French movies as they require this machine to be played. The model is a Samsung DV-P171. It has a plug adaptor and works just great in the US.
