A rare piece of bag history is this 1940's Plasticflex clutch. The patent number 2,256,645 is on the maker tag on the inside, and was filed on March 28, 1941 to Florence Kuhlman for Robert Appel, New York, N. Y. This type of bag was made when scarcities throughout World War II forced designers to utilize various materials for purses. Square tiles were utilized more commonly on these bags. The rectangular tiles on this bag are not as usual. The tiles are held together by exactly what seems children leather strips. The lining is a faille fabric which is a pastel Navy Blue and there is a slide-in inside pocket. The bag measures 111/2" long x 71/2" broad. The tiles are white and the leather strips are red, blue, green, and yellow.There are relatively few scuffs on the leather for it's age, and no breaks that I can find. The interior material is intact and has no issues. A hansom piece of history.Significant purchasers just, cash money sale, no shipment.E-mail for information.
