This is an original 1646 ca., map of the Isle of Wight: Vectis Insula Anglice, by Johannes Blaeu. This attractive map, has the title in an ornamental cartouche, which includes a guard bearing the Arms of England, flanked by wildfowl and deer. A scale of miles is in a different cartouche surmounted by an armillary sphere. It is hand colored with copper engraving. In general, it is in good condition, and two regional dealers have rated the condition as excellent. It does have a little browning/foxing, but the color is still excellent, and for the map (368 +/-), it has held up well. The background is still fairly white, however there is a shadow on it in the photos. I am asking $300.00, but will certainly think about any affordable offer, so make an offer. cash and local pick-up only. Thanks.
