Size 26" x 21" Painting is wonderful as a magnificent view of still life. Woman hanging clothes by the river. Owner was my dad who bought it in the 1970's. Ebenezer H. Murray-Eben H. Murray.b. 1848 - 1913, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. Artist (Painter).Late colonial era Scottish born Brisbane painter and cartoonist. Murray was born in Edinburgh, where he had an effective profession painting landscapes prior to moving to Brisbane in 1887. This painting by the river about guesstimating around 1880's. Eben H. Murrary's history.Painter and cartoonist, was born in Edinburgh, Scotland where he had a successful career painting landscapes (acc. Moore) prior to migrating to Brisbane in 1887. Not able to earn a living as a painter, he relied on industrial work and cartooning. He pioneered the collotype procedure in Queensland and was the very first cartoonist on the Brisbane Boomerang, started 1887, eg "For Heaven's sake, hide our past!" 21 January 1888, 14; The "Noble" British Lion 28 July 1888. Others consist of several anti-Chinese, anti-imperial ones like "Australia wakes!" 25 February 1888. He was prospered on the Boomerang by Monte Scott and A.J. Fischer from Sydney. Later on, Murray drew cartoons for the Queensland Worker, e.g. What we desire 1893 with a little girl (Queensland) walking on a raft (Labor Platform) with 'equal opportunity for all' on her outfit (ill King, 74). Mr. Speaker to the Rescue on the deadlock over the NSW/Qld border tariff, released 15 July 1893, frontispiece (signed 'Eben. H. Murray').
