Audiophile Upgraded Panasonic SA-XR700 Tripath Equibit 7.1 Channel Digital Amp

Location:
Valrico, FL
Description:

This is the final iteration of my modifications, this one better than the last. I have gone through every part of the main power electrical path and improved it to support TI's original recommendations and ensured that it can support amperage for 100 W on each channel, 7 channels driven.I have a masters in engineering, and the Panasonic XR series has been my hobby since 2005. Previously, I have modified the XR10, XR45, XR50, XR55, XR70, and XR57. What is up for sale is the culmination of years of research into the electrical design, Switching Mode Power Supply design theory, and the Panasonic schematics and service manuals. These equibit amps really shine when you use go by the recommendations from Texas Instruments. The XR10and XR45 use architecture from TI, and that is why they sound so great out of the box, and even better with modification. Panasonic changed the board design with the remainder of the series, including the xr700 for sale. Simply put, I modified them back to what TI recommends, and makes them sound better than the originals (I sold the modified XR45 I used to benchmark). I modified each receiver with the following:-IEC plug so you can use your favorite power cabling (I recommend at least 14 gauge wire)-upgraded the common mode chokes (so they support 7 channels of amperage down the line and increased noise suppression)-upgraded the main power supply capacitor-upgraded the post-transformer capacitors-reinforced the main power path on both the power supply board and the amplifier board-replaced the internal 24 gauge speaker-level wiring. Maintained the speaker selection switches so you can continue to switch between speaker modes. These modifications took at least 10 hours to complete for each amplifier.I reduced the THD from 0.09% stock to 0.000073% at 100W, 6 Ohms stereo; 0.00027 at 100W, 4 Ohms for stereo plus 8 Ohms for the 4 other channels simultaneously driven, as theoretically calculated with TI's chip parameters. These amps have driven speakers and subwoofers rated as low as 4 ohms DCR with no issues. What makes the XR amplifiers different from the rest is that they send stereo 192 kHz digital input signals from the coax 1 or HDMI inputs and amplifies them directly with the equibit chips. They also drive 7.1 PCM signals directly from the blu ray player. There is no fidelity loss from digital/analog conversion or timing problems associated with it. There is no sound floor (just pure silence). You get exactly what comes off of the disk as the editors made it. They sound amazing. The HDMI, digital coaxial (RCA coaxial), and Toslink (optical) connections work with BluRay, SACD, and DVD players. The Digital Transceiver connects to Panasonic wireless rear speakers. The xr700 is the ultimate Panasonic receiver. For stereo mode, it allows three amplifiers to power each signal (300 Watts theoretical per channel). For Bi-amp stereo mode, two of those three drive the lower range speaker and the third drives the higher range speaker. It includes the adjustments to the bi-amp settings that are on the XR57. You can change the timing (phase) and the power going to the high and low frequency speakers. They make even bookshelf speakers sound amazing. You can also bi-amp the front speakers in a 5.1 setup. Panasonic added a second HDMI input compared to the XR57.The inputs are gold plated. The xr700 has an XM satellite radio input.Still consumes about 130 W steady state versus 500-700W for a comparable Class A, 7 channel receiver.Comes with original remote. This is for one amplifier.Bottom line: These modifications unleash the full potential of the TI chips. They make clearer and louder audio with the ultimate flexibility for your speaker setup.
